Great game! First time playing it now, 16 years after it came out, and I had fun for the most part. So many segments where you have to protect some braindead NPC Too much logical inconsistency in which jumps you can make and which ones you can't Poor controls, like dodging and jumping over enemies being the same button, and there is generally poor responsiveness when it comes to things like wall jumping anyway Glitches like camera angles not working properly and frozen enemies. + But the cool time rewind mechanic does help make this feel a little better Tedious puzzles have far too much trial and error +/- Combat is satisfactory, though most of what you can actually do isn't explained to you at all A lot of the story is simply missed due to the aforementioned audio issues +/- Alright voice acting and music, at least from what I could hear of it Cutscenes cannot be paused, only skipped And of course there are audio based puzzles which the aforementioned issues cause a problem with Audio is atrocious and has serious issues where the cutscene sound is very low, and then the game sound is much louder, and then the PS3 system sounds are much louder still.

+ Looks good considering it was originally a PS2 game. The prince is quite unlikeable and the story is nothing special. The audio-balancing is awful cutscenes are really low in volume, as are dialogue snippets while playing, but you won't miss anything important.

Combine this with dozens of enemies per fight, an upgrade system which makes it harder to use your ultimate ability and a damsel in distress type helper who cannot be left alone or she'll die and you get some of the most awful combat I've ever seen in a video-game. This doesn't necessarily make the combat harder, just more tedious and longer. Later on you get blue enemies, who parry everything you do unless you parry them first. Thit wouldn't be an issue if the targeting system were any good, but it isn't. But the same button for stabbing is also used to freeze enemies using sand, or when you're out of sand, just stab them. To defeat an enemy you need to hit it a number of times until it's on the ground, then stab it with your dagger. What doesn't hold up is the combat, but then again that wasn't even good at the time. Combined with the rewind-mechanic this makes for an experience that holds up quite well. It suffers from weird camera angles, which make some jumps a bit hard to judge, but that's quite common among (earlier) 3d platformers. The game looks pretty decent for its age, and the platforming is done quite well. Enjoyable platformer with some issues, ruined by atrocious and excessive amounts of combat.
